An Informative Interview with Istiak Rayhan of RoadToBlogging
Hello friends, This is the first interview article at Bloggerscampus.com. And today we have with us very talented blogger from Bangladesh Istiak Rayhan. He started his blogging journey seriously back in 2012. Since then he never looked behind. His blog RoadToBlogging is an institute for other bloggers to learn blogging strategies. At RoadToBlogging he writes on SEO, Blogging, Affiliate marketing, Make money blogging etc.
BloggersCampus is specially for newbie bloggers that`s why I give priority on asking all the questions to Istiak which I think important for beginners.
So let`s see all the informative answers from Istiak Rayhan…..
1. Welcome to BloggersCampus. First of all please introduce yourself and your blog to my readers.
Istiak: Hi, I am Istiak Rayhan. I am a blogger and an internet marketer. I’ve been blogging for last 4 years. I am the founder of RoadToBlogging.com. It’s a blog about Blogging, SEO, WordPress, Affiliate Marketing, Social Media, Web Hosting, etc. I share everything I learn from my blogging journey. While other bloggers are talking about what to do, I am talking about how to do it efficiently.
However, thanks for having me on your blog, Riju Debnath.
2. How did you get involved in with blogging and who is your idol in this field?
Istiak: I created my first site in 2007 when I didn’t have a computer. It was a mobile site. At that time, there was a popular messenger software named Mig33. I used to write Mig33 tips and tricks on that site for fun. It was not making money, but I was happy because a lot of people were visiting the site. That was the time when I became fascinated by the internet.
I got my first computer in 2010. It was a laptop that my sister brought from the USA. In 2011, I discovered the micro freelancing site Microworkers.com. Some of the micro works were writing a blog post with some links. I created my first TLD site at Weebly.com to do those works. After few month, my site got banned because of some TOS violation issues. Then I created another blog on WordPress.com. That site had the same fate and got banned for the same kind of reason.
Then I decided to create a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. In 2012, I created my first self-hosted blog TechThumbs.com. The main purpose of that blog was to share tech related stuff. But somehow I started writing about Web Hosting, WordPress, SEO, etc on that tech blog. After few months, I decided to change the domain name. And I chose RoadToBlogging.com. This is how I got involved in blogging.
And talking about my idol, I got inspiration from many bloggers like Harsh Agrawal, Daniel Scocco, Darren Rowse, etc.
But if I have to mention one name, it’s Harsh Agrawal of ShoutMeLoud.com. Finding his blog is one of the best things happened to me. His income reports inspired me a lot.
3. Tell us about your biggest and proudest achievement of blogging?
Istiak: In a fine morning of November 2013, I got a phone call from my elder sister staying in the USA. She said that she received a payment of $1800 on her PayPal account. It was an affiliate payment. It was hard for me to believe that I made $1800 in a month.
I used that money to pay my mom’s loan. It’s still the biggest and proudest achievement of blogging.
4. What is your future plan? Do you have any other plan to start any new project apart from RoadToBlogging?
Istiak: Currently, I am planning to write an ebook on Affiliate Marketing. I’ll try my best to share everything I know about affiliate marketing on that ebook.
Talking about other projects, I bought HostLater.com last year from my friend Pradeep Kumar of HellBound Bloggers. Now I am working on it. HostLater.com is a blog about web hosting and domain name. I am also working on a local project.
5. If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
“What is one small thing that you can do today to move you a step closer to your dreams?”
6. How tough it is for a beginner to make a blog successful today. I mean how the things have changed from the last 3-4 years?
Istiak: Things have changed a lot. Before 4 years ago, it was ok to start a blog with a broad topic. Now it’s tough to stand out with a broad topic. You need to be specific about your topic and audience to make a blog successful.
7. Where should a newbie blogger focus more on his early days?
Istiak: Content, not design.
Newbie bloggers spend a lot of time on design stuff like adding widgets, changing colors, etc. Having a good looking blog is important. But it’s the contents that matter most. A newbie blogger should spend 80% of his time on content and 20% on other stuff.
8. Backlink remains the most crucial part of Google ranking factors. According to you which are the best link building strategies for a beginner?
Istiak: To be honest with you, I don’t spend much time on link building. Even though I got backlinks from sites like Problogger, CrazyEgg, CodeInWP, etc, I am not an expert in link building. But I always look for link building opportunities.
For beginners, I think blog commenting is the most important strategy.
I know it’s generating no-follow links, but it works.
However, I believe that beginners should give more attention to the content building than link building.
9. As we all know that learning SEO is a long-term course that every beginner need to practice on a daily basis. My question is after how many days from starting a new blog one can expect to get a decent number of organic traffic?
Istiak: It depends on niche and competition. If you choose a competitive niche, it might take 1 year to see decent organic traffic.
Normally, it takes 5-6 months to get traffic from Google for a medium competition niche.
10. Getting enough traffic to a new blog is a big challenge. Which are the best ways to get traffic to a new blog without SEO?
Istiak: Blog Commenting – It’s the best advice I can give to a beginner to get traffic.
Social Media – Being active on Facebook groups can generate a good amount of traffic.
Join Forums and Q/A Sites – Posting on forums and Q/A sites (like Quora) can be a good source of traffic.
All of these will work if someone doesn’t use spamming strategy.
11. Your recommendations for beginners:
i.Best Blogging Platform:- WordPress.
ii.Best Web Hosting Service:- Bluehost Shared Hosting.
iii.Best Domain Name Registrars:- Namecheap.
iv.Best Email Marketing Service:- MailChimp.
I personally thank Istiak for giving his valuable time for the readers of Bloggerscampus. I hope this interview will help you if you are a beginner.
